Maritime 4.0 – Managing & Monetizing the Employment Shift – Navigate 2020 and SeaFocus Cooperation

SeaFocus and Navigate 2020 have formed an Associate Partnership in order to co-create an attractive, substance rich and high quality conference event as one of the highlights of the Navigate Maritime Trade Fair in Turku January 2020. The conference, taking place January 22nd is also the Finals of the Intelligence Hunt 6 project, and the evening event the very same day a festive occasion with the award ceremony.

Intelligence Hunt edition 6 project will focus on the future maritime talents and knowhow.

The collaboration between Navigate 2020 and SeaFocus has been very active and fruitful, since the first meeting on the New Year’s Eve in 2018. From the means of traditional trade fair planning the established partnership collaboration is extremely innovative and modern, and goes deeper than just planning an exhibition. Together these two organisations want to raise international discussion on the importance of maritime education, and also discuss how it should be matching the industry needs in the future. As a first concrete means, Navigate 2020 has assigned a student team to work on a case in the Intelligence Hunt 5 project.

Gender, Demographics, Education, Trade patterns and Environment

The Intelligence Hunt 5 student team Light Ideas, with Julia Breidenbend and Svea Malin Clausen from Hochschule Bremen, Germany, Valeria Tronina from the Odessa Maritime University, Ukraine, Daria Kustova from the Admiral Makarov State University of Maritime and Inland Shipping, St Petersburg, Russia, Filip Nikitas Log from Umeå University, Sweden and Ngoc Phan from the Jyväskylä University of Applied Sciences, Finland are working on the Navigate Case. The case assignment was presented them with only light directions to give them as free and wide area to work on, as possible, without constraints. They even got to compose the heading themselves, in order to feel this case is really their own. The students wanted to start working on gender, demographics, trade patterns and environment reflecting the future education and how the maritime industry will be managing and monetizing the employment shift, thus the heading.

Mentors with Long and Wide Experience Supporting the Student Team

SeaFocus has assigned two experienced mentors to support the student team. Professor Dr. Eyden Samunderu from the International School of Management, Dortmund and Ulla von Weissenberg, Attorney at Law, Partner at Procopé & Hornborg. We thank the both mentors for their valuable input and advice to the team during this project.

Call for Cases for Intelligence Hunt 6 Project

During April 2019 SeaFocus will launch a call for cases for the Intelligence Hunt 6 project, with relevant questions helping the companies to identify their real needs and the most suitable topics for the autumn project. The ten first assigning companies will be accepted to the #IntelligenceHunt6 Company and Student Competition. Optimally SeaFocus aims to launch the company cases first, and only after that allow the students to choose their three best cases to work on, upon registration. The student registration will be opened when the autumn semester begins in the universities. A different set up again to keep the concept fresh. The work on the cases will start in October and the Jury to be named, should get the materials for vetting by January 7th 2020.
